Video is the fastest growing medium online. In fact, online video reaches more people aged 18-34 than cable television! Here at Native, we take our video production seriously. We believe video is a key element in creating holistic and memorable brand stories. It is important for us to create video that excites, inspires, and tells a great story.
We caught up with a member of our video production team, Vila, to talk about bit about his process.
Vila is all about keeping things simple when it comes to shooting a video. All he needs is a camera, lights, and quality microphones. To Vila, the story is what makes the video. Overproduction can distract from the objective of the story and the meaning can get lost.
However, Vila doesn’t skimp when it comes to editing. Using Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Audition, Vila polishes his videos to perfection. Lighting tweaks, subtitles, and editing clips together to tell the perfect story all happen in post-production.
But when it comes to video, we think it’s better to show than to tell. Check out one of Vila’s masterpieces below:
Tips and Tricks
So, how do you create a winning video for a client? Vila has a few tips:
- Patience really is a virtue. Sitting and watching the same footage for hours can be tiring, and a bit boring. However, this is a big part of video editing. A great clip is made by paying close attention to detail. That means each clip needs to be reviewed with a fine tooth comb.
- Don’t fall in love with any clips or shots. You never know what a client may choose to remove in the review stage. Like anything, be passionate about your work — but not so passionate that you aren’t responsive to feedback.
- If you feel like you’re stuck, take a break. Go on a walk. Exercise. Come back to the project with a clear mind. Writer’s Block happens to videographers, too. You aren’t a failure if you need to take a moment and regroup.
